Malacañang dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s remarks regarding the 2028 presidential elections, calling them baseless and intended to create intrigue.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reacted to Duterte’s statement made during her stay in the Netherlands, where the Vice President expressed hope for an honest and peaceful election in the next four years. Duterte made the remarks after being asked about preparations for the 2028 presidential race.
Castro described Duterte’s comments as “like father, like daughter,” referring to former President Rodrigo Duterte. According to Castro, the statements appeared to be mere intrigue and unsupported claims.
The Palace official also recalled a previous admission by the former president, who once said he was skilled in creating intrigue.
Castro further pointed out Duterte’s facial expression while answering questions, saying the Vice President appeared to be smiling as she made the remarks. The Palace official added that it seemed Duterte herself found the statements amusing.
Malacañang also emphasized that while the Marcos administration is focused on addressing the effects of the crisis in the Middle East, Duterte appeared focused on politics and the 2028 elections.
Castro, who is also a lawyer, advised the Vice President to review the Constitution to address her concerns regarding the country’s electoral process.
Duterte earlier said people should pray for an honest and peaceful election in 2028, raising doubts about whether the polls would push through and remain credible.
The Palace maintained that there was no basis for Duterte’s statements and reiterated that the administration remains focused on governance and national concerns.
