The ASEAN 2026 National Organizing Council (NOC) said it continues to coordinate with various government agencies, including the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and PAGASA.
This comes as the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings are set to be held on May 7 and 8, 2026 in Cebu.
In a press briefing, NOC Director-General for Operations Ma. Hellen De La Vega said they aim to be fully prepared for any disasters.
“All of these agencies responsible for whether it’s—I actually call them natural events, rather than natural calamities, because we want to be friends with these forces of nature,” De La Vega said.
She added that a dedicated committee is already in place to oversee security and emergency preparedness.
De La Vega also expressed confidence in their contingency measures.
“Here in Cebu, I think I can say confidently that we are ready for any contingency,” she added.
The country is currently preparing for possible adverse weather conditions that may occur in the coming days.
