Five policemen sustained minor injuries when tension between them and protesters briefly erupted as protest actions loomed in line with the commemoration of the 161st Bonifacio Day on Saturday morning.
Hundreds of protesters assembled in Liwasang Bonifacio grounds in Manila and marched towards Mendiola but upon reaching Recto Avenue the police prevented the group from marching forward.
Some protesters insisted on passing through the police barricade which resulted to the violent confrontations.
Members of labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), and transport groups PISTON and Manibela remembered the birth of Filipino hero Andres Bonifacio, the father of Philippine Revolution with protest actions calling the government to act on some issues.
The group called on the government to raise salaries, create more jobs, scrap the PUV Modernization Program and implement reforms in the government system.
