Woman rider dies in truck crash in Dalaguete

A woman rider was killed after she was run over by a 10-wheeler truck Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Manangal, Dalaguete, Cebu, police said.

The victim was identified as Shena, a resident of the town.

According to initial police investigation, the victim’s motorcycle and the truck were traveling in the same direction prior to the crash on Feb. 24.

Upon reaching the area of the incident, the rider reportedly signaled a right turn but suddenly attempted to turn left without correcting her signal light, investigators said.

At the same time, the truck driver attempted an overtaking maneuver on the left side, which led to a collision between the two vehicles.

Due to the impact, the victim was thrown off her motorcycle and fell onto the road.

Police said the rear wheel of the truck ran over the victim, resulting in her immediate death.

The 30-year-old truck driver is now in police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.

Officials have yet to release further details pending the results of the ongoing probe.

Authorities reminded motorists to exercise caution, use proper signals and follow traffic rules to prevent similar incidents on the road.

Police said they are gathering statements and other evidence to determine the exact circumstances and possible liabilities related to the fatal crash in Dalaguete.
