Three former members of the New People’s Army (NPA), including a married couple, surrendered to authorities in separate incidents in Leyte and Eastern Samar, according to police and military reports.
A 34-year-old former NPA member, identified only by the alias Kiko, voluntarily surrendered to police in Barangay Pangasugan, Baybay City, Leyte, on Nov. 3.
Kiko was previously a regular member of the NPA’s ABI Squad Platoon under the Amandawin Command. He turned over a .38-caliber revolver and two rounds of ammunition during his surrender.
Meanwhile, a former rebel couple surrendered to the 52nd Infantry Battalion in Dolores, Eastern Samar, on Oct. 29. Both were identified as former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).
Following the surrender, the military recovered an M16 rifle, magazines and a .38-caliber firearm after the husband disclosed the location of the weapons.
The military also assured assistance to the pregnant woman, particularly in preparation for her delivery.
Authorities and local government units continue to work with communities to encourage former rebels to return to the government and help maintain peace and security across Eastern Visayas.
