Typhoon Opong Damages Over 1,000 Schools

The Department of Education (DepEd) is closely coordinating with local government units to implement response protocols and prepare schools for the resumption of classes following the onslaught of Typhoon Opong last week.

According to DepEd, a total of 1,370 classrooms were damaged by the typhoon and the southwest monsoon, 254 of which were totally destroyed.

In addition, 13.3 million students and 569,000 personnel from more than 20,000 public schools across 13 regions were affected by the severe weather.

Most of the affected schools are located in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA.

It can be recalled that Typhoon Opong exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) last Saturday.
