A 17-year-old girl died after she was allegedly electrocuted while resting near the shoreline in Barangay Dumulog, Roxas City, Capiz, prompting a police investigation into reports that a barbed wire fence had been connected to a live electrical wire.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Angel,” was a resident of Barangay Banica in Roxas City, Capiz.
According to information obtained by Brigada News FM, the teenager left her home to go jogging. After completing her run, she reportedly rested near the beach and leaned against a barbed wire fence, where she was allegedly electrocuted.
The Roxas City Police are investigating the caretaker of the property to determine whether a live electrical wire had been intentionally connected to the fence surrounding the lot.
The incident came after residents of Barangay Dumulog, Roxas City, Capiz, claimed they had repeatedly warned the caretaker of a nearby rest house not to place electricity on the barbed wire enclosing the property.
Former Barangay Captain Richard Mario Artillero said many people, particularly children, regularly gather along the shoreline, making the alleged electrified fence a potential danger to the public.
Artillero also said the caretaker had allegedly ignored previous warnings and did not install warning signs to alert people of any possible hazard.
Following the teenager’s death, residents also claimed that other people had previously suffered electrocution in the same area.
The caretaker, however, denied placing electricity on the barbed wire fence.
Police have not yet determined whether the fence was intentionally electrified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any individual may be held responsible for the teenager’s death. VIA 95.7 BRIGADA ROXAS CAPIZ
