Storm outside PAR being monitored; May intensify into Super Typhoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely monitoring a storm currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather disturbance is Tropical Storm Sinlaku, which may enter PAR next week. Once inside, it will be given the local name Caloy.

As of 8:00 a.m., the storm’s center was last located approximately 2,730 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 90 kilometers per hour.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Manila, PAGASA weather forecaster Dan Villamil said the system could intensify further and may develop into a super typhoon by Monday.

Despite this, it is not expected to directly affect any part of the country.

Forecasts indicate that it may only skim the edge of the PAR.

As a result, generally hot weather is still expected across the country in the coming week.
