Multiple sightings of snakes along Legazpi City Boulevard, Albay in recent days have stirred concern among residents visiting the popular coastal walkway.
Speaking to Brigada News FM Legazpi, Dr. Franz Colambo, veterinarian and park manager of Albay Parks and Wildlife, explained that the emergence of snakes during this time of year is not unusual. According to him, the months from March to May mark the breeding season for many snake species in the region.
“The hotter weather conditions drive snakes to seek cooler environments,” Colambo said, noting that this behavior often brings them closer to urban areas, including public spaces like the boulevard.
He added that public awareness plays a critical role in ensuring safety. “It’s important for residents to understand the type of snakes they encounter to respond appropriately,” Colambo emphasized.
To prevent harm, Colambo advised the public not to touch or provoke snakes if spotted. “Remain cautious and report sightings to proper authorities,” he said.
While no injuries or attacks have been reported so far, the unusual activity has prompted calls for increased monitoring of the area, especially during the ongoing hot season.
Local authorities have yet to release a formal statement regarding additional safety measures or any planned relocation efforts for the snakes.
