Six dead, six injured in Davao City truck crash

Six people were killed and six others injured after a truck lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles and a barangay gym Saturday morning in Marilog District, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on April 11, 2026, along the Davao–Bukidnon National Highway in Barangay Marilog Proper. The vehicle involved was an Isuzu wing van truck loaded with assorted Rebisco products and traveling toward Davao City.

According to initial reports, the truck was allegedly traveling at excessive speed while negotiating a descending curved portion of the highway. Witnesses said the vehicle lost control, fell onto the pavement, swerved to the right and struck the barangay gym and several vehicles along the road.

Authorities reported that the crash involved a total of 22 vehicles, including 18 motorcycles, one motorcycle with sidecar, two motorized tricycles, one Nissan van and one Sportivo vehicle traveling in the opposite lane. The barangay gym also sustained structural damage.

Five victims died at the scene, including the truck driver, two aides and three bystanders. Another bystander later died while undergoing treatment at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Six other individuals sustained injuries, with two transported to SPMC for medical treatment while others received on-site care or refused hospital transport.

Emergency responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection, 911 Emergency Response Unit, Urban Search and Rescue teams, Philippine National Police and other local responders secured the scene and conducted rescue operations, which ended at about 5:30 p.m. the same day.

Authorities said reckless imprudence is the apparent cause of the crash, with further technical and forensic examinations ongoing to determine additional contributing factors.
