A man was shot dead by unidentified suspects while on his way to pick up his wife Thursday evening, April 9, in Barangay 13, authorities said.
The victim was identified by police as alias “Jonel,” a resident of Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City.
According to Police Capt. Efren Legada, station commander of Police Station 1, the victim was heading to his wife’s workplace to pick her up when the shooting occurred.
Initial police investigation showed that the suspects were riding a motorcycle and allegedly followed the victim, who was also on board his motorcycle, along Palanca Road in Barangay 13.
Authorities said the suspects opened fire at the victim while he was traveling along the road. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds that resulted in his death.
Investigators recovered empty shell casings from a caliber .45 firearm at the crime scene, which are now undergoing examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said one of the angles being considered in the case is a possible personal dispute involving the victim. However, authorities have not yet released further details regarding the motive.
Law enforcement officers are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects and determine their whereabouts.
Authorities urged anyone with information related to the shooting to coordinate with police as efforts continue to resolve the case and bring those responsible to justice.
