Senator Lacson pushes Anti-Dynasty Bill

Senator Ping Lacson is pushing for the immediate processing of the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill in the 20th Congress, calling it a top priority for the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation, which he chairs.

Lacson said the measure is crucial in addressing the growing influence of powerful political clans in government, which he likened to a monarchy. According to the senator, these families have turned the government into what seems like their personal playground.

The bill, authored by Lacson, will be scheduled for committee discussions along with another proposed measure that was also referred to his committee.

He acknowledged, however, that similar efforts have repeatedly failed in Congress. The Anti-Political Dynasty Bill has been filed multiple times since the 8th Congress but has never gained enough support to be enacted into law.

Despite the historical setbacks, Lacson stressed the need to revisit the proposal and give it a real chance under the current Congress.
