The Philippine Senate has approved on third and final reading a bill seeking to prohibit relatives of public officials from entering into government contracts.
Senate Bill No. 1962, also known as the “Government Contracting and Procurement Integrity Act,” was approved with 15 affirmative votes and zero negative votes.
The proposed measure aims to prohibit relatives of any public official from participating in any government contracts.
Sen. Chiz Escudero authored the bill. Its co-authors are Senate President Win Gatchalian, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Loren Legarda and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.
The bill was filed on March 11 this year.
Its approval on third and final reading marks the Senate’s passage of the proposed measure, which focuses on restricting the participation of public officials’ relatives in government contracts.
The legislation is formally identified as Senate Bill No. 1962 and carries the title “Government Contracting and Procurement Integrity Act.”
The Senate vote recorded 15 affirmative votes and no negative votes.
The bill now moves forward after securing approval from the Senate on its third and final reading.
