Vice President Sara Duterte has petitioned the Supreme Court to stop the impeachment proceedings against her. Through her legal team, she filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition against the House of Representatives and the Senate, questioning the validity and constitutionality of the fourth impeachment complaint transmitted by the lower chamber.
Duterte argues that the impeachment process violates due process and raises serious legal and constitutional concerns. She expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will uphold the rule of law and protect democratic principles.
In a notable development, former President Rodrigo Duterte has joined his daughter’s legal team. His signature appears on the petition filed today, confirming his role as legal counsel alongside Atty. Lucas Carpio Jr. and other lawyers from Fortun, Narvaza, and Salazar Law.
This is the second petition filed before the Supreme Court to halt the impeachment. Yesterday, a group of Mindanao-based lawyers, known supporters of Duterte, submitted a similar petition challenging the proceedings.
