Pre-emptive evacuation ordered for Residents within Mayon Volcano’s 6-km PDZ

Albay Governor Noel Rosal has ordered a pre-emptive evacuation of residents living within the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano as the volcano continues to show heightened activity.

As of today, households located within the PDZ have been directed to evacuate. City and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) are maintaining 24-hour monitoring of the volcano, while police have put security measures in place to prevent unauthorized entry into the danger zone.

Classes in schools located within the PDZ have been suspended.

Authorities have also prohibited flights near Mayon Volcano, entry into the Mayon Skyline, and certain activities such as ATV riding.

The public is advised to remain alert, follow safety precautions, and stay updated on announcements from local authorities.

Mayon Volcano has been raised to Alert Level 3.

Even before the governor’s directive, Camalig, Albay Mayor Caloy Baldo had already issued an evacuation order effective 4:00 p.m. today for residents in areas of the town covered by the PDZ.

According to Mayor Baldo, an estimated more than 160 families, or nearly 600 individuals, are living within the danger zone.

Classes have also been suspended in two schools that will serve as evacuation centers, including Baligang Elementary School and Bariw Elementary School.
