Authorities intercepted a smuggled shipment containing nearly one kilogram of suspected shabu worth ₱6.7 million at the Port of Clark, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) confirmed.
The seized parcel, originating from Bujumbura, East Africa and bound for Cavite City, underwent enhanced X-ray screening, which triggered a physical inspection. Customs officers discovered a metal wheel bearing inside a brown box, concealing four taped packages filled with white crystalline substances.
Laboratory testing conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Airport Interdiction Unit (PDEA-AIU) confirmed the substance as methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
The operation was carried out jointly by the BOC-Port of Clark’s Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, PDEA, PNP Aviation Security Group, the NBI Pampanga District Office, DOJ, and local barangay officials in Mabalacat City.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention has been issued for the shipment, citing violations of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in connection with Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
District Collector Jairus S. Reyes praised the success of the operation, highlighting the vigilance and cooperation of all agencies involved. Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio echoed this, emphasizing Customs’ role in protecting public safety, beyond trade facilitation and revenue collection.
“This operation is proof of our strong resolve to stop drug smuggling and protect Filipino lives,” Rubio said.
