OFW deployment declines amid middle east tensions

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported a decline in the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

According to the DMW, many OFWs are backing out due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

In an interview, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac also explained that flight cancellations and safety concerns have contributed to the slowdown in sectors such as hospitality, transport, construction, and events management.

It can be recalled that Cacdac earlier clarified that reports of 40,000 stranded OFWs do not directly reflect the actual situation on the ground, based on information from recruitment agencies.

Since the conflict began, government agencies have continued to ensure assistance for affected workers.
