The Armed Forces of the Philippines intensified operations in Northern Mindanao and Caraga, recovering weapons and explosives while also prompting a rebel medic to surrender.
According to the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, a series of military actions from July 29 to 31 led to the capture of firearms, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other combat materials across Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, and Surigao del Sur.
On July 29, a concerned citizen in Sitio Pinayungan, Barangay Consuelo, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur turned over two IEDs, blasting caps, and detonating cord. Troops from Charlie Battery of the 4th Field Artillery Battalion and EOD personnel facilitated the handover. The materials are now secured by the 401st Infantry Brigade.
That same day in Barangay Bal-ason, Gingoog City, soldiers from the 58th Infantry Battalion engaged NPA fighters, seizing an M16 rifle, three magazines, a bandolier, and a backpack. Another firefight occurred on July 31 in Barangay Lawaan, resulting in the recovery of another M16 rifle, ammunition, and personal items.
On July 30, a female NPA medic, alias Jawe or Darna, surrendered to the 36th Infantry Battalion in Carmen, Surigao del Sur. She cited hunger, injury, and continued military pressure as reasons for leaving the group. Wounded in a 2024 clash in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, she sought to reunite with her family.
Major General Michele Anayron Jr. said these recent gains reflect the NPA’s weakening hold in the region and urged remaining fighters to surrender through the government’s E-CLIP program.
