Former Arellano University shooting guard and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) player Ken Fred “Kentoy” Segura was shot dead while driving in Barangay Pulanglupa, M’lang, Cotabato, on Tuesday night. Segura, known as “Mr. Piso-piso” for his on-court prowess, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
According to reports, Segura was driving along the National Highway with his nephew after participating in an invitational basketball tournament in M’lang when suspects in a white car opened fire. Segura was hit in the side, while his nephew escaped unharmed.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are actively pursuing the suspects. Segura, a father of two, was a well-known figure in the basketball community, earning respect for his dedication to the sport.
His body is set to be transported to his hometown in Digos City, Davao del Sur, where his family will lay him to rest.
Further details on the investigation are expected as authorities work to identify and apprehend the suspects.
