Malacañang: transport strike “not timely”

Malacañang said a planned transport strike by some groups is not timely.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said the planned strike by Manibela from April 15 to 17 will not help address the ongoing challenges brought about by the Middle East crisis.

She emphasized that what is needed now is dialogue, cooperation, and negotiation between the government and stakeholders.

The Palace spokesperson also pushed back against claims that the administration has been slow to act.

She said it is clear that the government is prioritizing the transport sector.

Whether there is a strike or not, she added, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. continues to listen to the concerns of Filipinos, especially those in the transport sector.

At the same time, Castro clarified that the President has no authority to suspend or reduce the value-added tax (VAT) on oil, contrary to claims made by some transport groups.
