LTO says digital driver’s license valid for traffic inspections

The Land Transportation Office has reiterated that digital driver’s licenses are valid forms of identification for motorists during traffic inspections nationwide.

According to the LTO, the digital or e-driver’s license accessed through the Land Transportation Management System may be presented to traffic enforcers in lieu of the physical driver’s license card. This policy is based on a department order issued in 2023.

The agency clarified that motorists may show their digital driver’s license during routine inspections or when apprehended for traffic violations. However, only the official digital version generated through the driver’s personal LTMS account is recognized as valid.

The LTO emphasized that screenshots, photocopies, or other digital IDs will not be honored by its enforcers. Authorities were reminded to verify licenses directly through the official LTMS platform when necessary.

The e-driver’s license is automatically issued to motorists who apply for a new driver’s license or renew an existing one using the LTMS portal. Drivers do not need to make a separate application to obtain the digital version.

Motorists can access the official digital driver’s license through the LTMS platform or via the eGovPH digital services portal. The LTO said this system ensures authenticity and prevents misuse or falsification.

The agency urged drivers to ensure they can log in to their LTMS accounts when traveling, as only the official digital license displayed within the platform will be accepted by authorities.
