The KEITECH Educational Foundation, Inc. marked a significant milestone on November 29, 2024, as it celebrated its 15th commencement exercises with 90 graduates completing world-class skills training. Held at the Multipurpose Building on the Keitech campus in Barangays Rizal and Hiluctogan in the municipality of Kananga, the ceremony honored the institution’s mission of transforming underprivileged individuals into skilled professionals ready for global opportunities.
Transforming Lives Through Education
In his opening remarks, Atty. Allan V. Barcena, President of KEITECH Educational Foundation, reflected on the institution’s journey over the past 15 years. With over 1,200 graduates since its inception, KEITECH has maintained a remarkable 100% certification passing rate, underscoring its commitment to excellence in education and skills training.
Barcena highlighted the foundation’s impact on the underprivileged community in Kananga and Ormoc City, creating a world-class workforce for both local and international markets. He shared stories of past graduates who, armed with their KEITECH training, have lifted their families out of poverty. Addressing the new graduates, he expressed hope that they would continue this legacy of nation-building.
“Your success is a testament to your hard work and resilience,” Barcena said. “We hope you go on to become builders of a better tomorrow.”
Recognizing Outstanding Achievements
The graduates represented four specialized programs: 23 in Heavy Industrial Multi-Process Welding I, 21 in Construction Hand Craftsman I, 24 in Construction Hand Craftsman II, and 22 in Hotel and Restaurant Services. These students not only completed rigorous training but also demonstrated exceptional skill and discipline.
Mark James Navarro, this year’s recipient of the prestigious Oscar M. Lopez Award of Excellence, shared his inspiring journey during his valedictory speech. Born to parents who were unable to complete primary education due to financial constraints, Navarro worked as a construction laborer before discovering the KEITECH scholarship program through a friend.
“KEITECH taught me the value of hard work and perseverance,” Navarro said. “This opportunity was difficult, but it became a chance to grow and create a ripple effect in my community.”
Messages of Encouragement
Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, represented by Councilor Gregorio Yrastorza III, congratulated the graduates and emphasized the transformative power of education. “Education is the greatest equalizer,” he stated. “It prepares us for the challenges of the world and opens doors to endless opportunities.”
Yrastorza encouraged the graduates to embrace the opportunities ahead with confidence, enthusiasm, and a commitment to lifelong learning. “The foundation you have built here will support you in all that you choose to achieve,” he said.
Kananga Mayor Matt Torres, represented by Vice Mayor Miguel Tan, also delivered a heartfelt message. Acknowledging the readiness of Keitech graduates for employment even during their training, Tan encouraged them to “grow where you are planted.” He also hinted at initial discussions with the local government for potential funding to expand Keitech’s programs, further strengthening its role in community development.
The Role of Education in Nation-Building
School Administrator Erwin Magallanes, who presented the candidates for graduation, commended the institution’s unwavering commitment to producing a world-class workforce. He reiterated KEITECH’s mission of equipping individuals with the skills needed to succeed in a competitive labor market while fostering a sense of discipline and responsibility.
Dr. Dan Navarro, Regional Director of TESDA VIII, and Assistant Director Vivian Abueva also delivered congratulatory messages, praising KEITECH’s dedication to providing top-notch training and ensuring every graduate is well-prepared for the workforce.
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning
KEITECH’s graduates are more than just skilled workers—they are agents of change. The foundation’s programs emphasize not only technical proficiency but also the values of hard work, perseverance, and community service.
As the graduates received their certificates, a sense of accomplishment and hope filled the room. With the foundation they have built at KEITECH, they are now ready to contribute to their families, communities, and the nation.
The ceremony concluded with a resounding message: education and skills development are key to overcoming challenges and creating a better future.
