The International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Chamber III has canceled the scheduled status conference on July 14 in the crimes against humanity case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to the ICC Trial Chamber III, the conference was canceled after the parties and participants informed the chamber that they had no “specific matters” requiring attention at the current stage of the proceedings.
The next status conference has been scheduled for September 16.
The first status conference was held on May 27, marking the start of proceedings against Duterte over crimes against humanity allegations linked to killings during his tenure as President of the Philippines and as mayor of Davao City.
During that hearing, the chamber also ordered a re-examination of Duterte’s fitness to participate in the trial.
At the second status conference on June 23, the Trial Chamber reminded the parties about the rules governing public comments on the proceedings.
Duterte was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in March last year and has since remained in detention at the ICC Detention Centre in Scheveningen, The Hague, the Netherlands.
