Ten people died after a landslide buried two families in Sitio Fandaw, Malapatan, Sarangani Province, early Friday morning, July 10.
The tragedy happened around 4:00 a.m. following continuous heavy rainfall and the intensified southwest monsoon, which triggered the soil collapse.
According to the initial report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Malapatan, rescuers have already recovered ten bodies.
Authorities identified the fatalities as Alejandro Maladian, Bina Binaton Maladian, Jordan Binaton Maladian, Weljay Maladian, Bonbon Cawsri, Therd Yaton Dawang, Prince Yaton Dawang, Save Yaton Dawang, and Daniel Binaton Dawang.
Rescuers rushed Ricky Ben to the hospital for emergency treatment, but attending physicians declared him dead on arrival (DOA).
Search and rescue teams continue operations to ensure no additional victims remain trapped beneath the collapsed earth and debris.
In a statement, Mayor Salway Sumbo Jr. thanked all responding rescue teams and urged residents to remain vigilant against possible additional landslides.
The local government also continues providing assistance to the bereaved families while assessing the condition of other landslide-prone communities in the municipality.
Meanwhile, the MDRRMO and partner agencies remain on heightened alert as they closely monitor weather conditions to prevent further casualties and damage.
