Authorities from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have suspended a care facility in Maramag, Bukidnon, after discovering it operated without proper registration and authorization.
The DSWD-Region 10, through its field team, immediately conducted an inspection and rescued 17 senior citizens from the unregistered facility.
Officials said the operation aimed to protect the elderly residents and ensure they receive proper care and assistance under government-supervised programs.
According to the DSWD, the establishment failed to comply with the legal and safety requirements mandated for care facilities housing vulnerable sectors.
The agency emphasized that any organization providing shelter or services to senior citizens must first secure accreditation and meet the standards for health, safety, and social welfare.
Social workers provided immediate intervention for the rescued seniors, including medical assessments, counseling, and temporary placement in accredited shelters.
DSWD personnel also coordinated with local government units to assist in monitoring and documenting the welfare of the affected individuals.
The agency vowed to pursue further investigation to determine possible administrative and legal actions against the operators of the unregistered home.
Officials reminded the public to verify the legitimacy of care institutions before entrusting their elderly loved ones to ensure their safety and well-being.
The DSWD reiterated its commitment to uphold the protection and dignity of senior citizens, ensuring that every facility providing care operates within the law.
