DOJ disappointed over Timor Leste’s refusal to extradite Teves

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is deeply disappointed by the Timor-Leste court’s dismissal of the Philippines’ extradition request for former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr.

According to the agency, it is surprising that the court suddenly sided with Teves because the Court of Appeals of Timor Leste had twice ruled in favor of the Philippines’ extradition request in June and December last year.

“ The DOJ is seeking clarification on this unexpected shift and reaffirms its commitment to bringing Mr. Teves, who faces serious charges, back to the Philippines to face charges,”. The statement said.

The government through the DOJ assured that it will not stop to hold Teves accountable  for the crime he was accused of.

Teves is accused of being the mastermind in the 2023 murders of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and nine others.
