Tormis said the celebration will coincide with the formal lighting of the Bucana Bridge’s LED system, which will be switched on during the same day’s activities.

The Bucana Bridge has recently drawn attention after officials from the Republic of China visited the site. The bridge is a China-funded infrastructure project, making it a notable venue for this year’s festivities.

City tourism officials said holding the celebration at the bridge is one way of highlighting cultural ties while also showcasing a major development project in the area.

Aside from the main gathering at Bucana Bridge, activities will also continue in Chinatown along Uyanguren Street as the city welcomes the Chinese New Year.

Organizers said Chinatown events will form part of the broader celebration as Davao marks the start of the Year of the Fire Horse.
