92 former rebels surrender in Davao del Norte

Ninety-two former rebels from dismantled units under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee formally returned to the fold of the law during a mass surrender and presentation ceremony held Jan. 27, 2026, in Talaingod, Davao del Norte.

The activity took place at the Balimba Hills Activity Center and was facilitated by the 60th Infantry Battalion of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division in close coordination with local government units and other stakeholders.

Local leaders and government officials witnessed the event, highlighting what organizers described as strong multi-sectoral support for peace initiatives and the reintegration of former combatants into civilian life.

During the ceremony, the returnees voluntarily turned over 29 assorted low-powered firearms for proper disposition. They also received food packs and financial assistance from local government units to help address their immediate needs as they transition back into their communities.

Brig. Gen. Christopher Diaz, commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, formally presented the former rebels and recognized their decision as the beginning of a new chapter focused on peace and unity.

Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, said the activity reflected a shared commitment to lasting peace, development and continued partnership among communities, the military and local governments.

Officials said the mass surrender underscored sustained efforts by the Philippine Army, local governments and partner stakeholders to maintain insurgency-free communities and prevent the resurgence of communist terrorist groups.

The activity also forms part of broader initiatives aimed at transforming conflict-affected areas in the Davao Region into more resilient and self-reliant communities.

The Army said continued cooperation among sectors remains essential in supporting former rebels as they reintegrate into civilian life and contribute to long-term stability in the region.
