A police officer was fatally shot in a mall parking area in Rosary Heights 7, Cotabato City, Friday night, while accompanied by his wife and children.
The victim, Police Master Sergeant John Manuel Bongcawil, served as an intelligence officer for the Maguindanao del Norte Police Office. Reports indicate he and his family were heading home when an unidentified assailant opened fire.
Bongcawil was struck in the lower face, a wound that proved fatal. His family, though physically unharmed, was forced to witness the harrowing attack.
Local authorities have launched a hot pursuit operation to apprehend the suspect. Investigators are considering all angles, including the possibility that the murder was connected to Bongcawil’s work in the intelligence unit.
