The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Monday resumed the printing of ballots for the 2025 Midterm Elections after several delays due to the Supreme Court’s (SC) temporary restraining orders (TROs.)
COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia said there are still pending petitions in the high court but they need to go ahead with the printing to be ready for the May 2025 Elections.
The COMELEC and the National Printing Office (NPO) have signed a memorandum of agreement to ensure faster and more efficient printing of ballots.
It can be recalled that the printing of ballots was delayed for several weeks and about six million ballots were wasted after the Supreme Court issued a TRO regarding the disqualification of some candidates.
With the start of ballot printing, the Comelec targets to print 1.5 million ballots daily.
The poll body said that to ensure that the printing of ballots is completed on time it will be done 24 hours a day and the personnel will be divided into day shift and night shift.
More than 72 million ballots will be produced and six machines will be used, with printing expected to be completed by April 14.
