Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Monday confirmed that President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has granted executive clemency to former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in connection with his administrative case.
Mabilog was ordered dismissed from service after the Ombudsman found him guilty of Serious Dishonesty for failing to explain the almost P9 million increase in his wealth.
The former mayor also grabbed national headlines when Former President Rodrigo Duterte linked him to the illegal drug trade and named him as among high profile drug personalities in the country.
Bersamin said President Marcos recognized Mabilog’s contribution to the development of Iloilo in granting the clemency.
“ In view of Mabilog’s long-standing commitment to good governance, coupled with the awards and recognition received by Iloilo under his leadership, the President granted Mabilog’s petitionnn for executive clemency in connection with his administrative case, thereby removing the penalties or disabilities resulting from such case,” Bersamin said in a statement.
Mabilog was forced to leave the country in 2017 after Duterte included him in the list of “narco politicians”.
Despite the issues linking him in the illegal drug trade no case was filed against him to date.
