CCTV captures Matina robbery and shooting in Davao City

A robbery and shooting at a motor shop in Matina, Davao City, were captured on CCTV as police launched a dragnet operation against two suspects linked to two robbery incidents early Oct. 6.

The first incident happened at a motor shop in the GSIS Matina area, where the suspect allegedly attempted to rob the establishment before firing a gun during the confrontation.

Mar Israel, owner of Marwerks Garage, said the suspect initially appeared to be someone they knew. The gunman was described as an older man who arrived on a black Honda Click motorcycle.

According to Israel, the suspect suddenly entered the shop and allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Israel said he instinctively pushed the suspect after becoming frightened.

The suspect then fired the weapon as the confrontation escalated or as he fled, hitting Israel in the right forearm. The bullet reportedly passed through his arm.

Israel was brought to Brokenshire Hospital, where an X-ray showed that the bullet did not hit any bone. He said the incident left them traumatized.

Police recovered three bullet shell casings from the area where the shooting occurred.

After the motor shop incident, the suspects reportedly proceeded to a mini grocery store in Matina Aplaya. The store was robbed at about 1:59 a.m. Oct. 6, with more than ₱2,000 in cash taken.

The Talomo Police Station launched a dragnet operation against the two suspects following the incidents.

The Davao City Police Office is offering a ₱500,000 reward for information that could help identify the suspects and their companion.

Police are continuing to review CCTV footage and conduct follow-up operations to identify and arrest those involved.
