Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa admitted that the circulating draft resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte originated from his office.
On June 4, the unsigned draft surfaced on social media. According to Dela Rosa, it was shared with fellow senators to gather support and suggestions before any formal filing.
The draft aims to have the complaint against the Vice President declared functionally dismissed. Dela Rosa also revealed that other senators created their own draft versions of a similar resolution, but he did not disclose who they were.
The draft resolution argues that there is no more time to take up the impeachment complaint, citing the rescheduling of the proceedings from June 2 to June 11.
Senator Bong Go supported a speedy resolution of the matter, saying the Senate needs to return to its regular duties. However, he noted that the final decision rests with the Senate leadership.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero clarified that no official resolution has been filed. He referred to the circulating document as a “mere scrap of paper” unless formally submitted.
Other senators, including Alan Peter Cayetano and Jinggoy Estrada, expressed that the impeachment complaint cannot be dismissed through a simple resolution. They emphasized the need to follow constitutional processes and fulfill their mandate under the Philippine Constitution.
