PDEA burns ₱8.4M worth of marijuana in Kalinga

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)–Cordillera Kalinga Provincial Office, with support from local police, burned ₱8.4 million worth of marijuana in a two-day operation in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The campaign, conducted from June 3 to 4, 2025, targeted a plantation in Barangay Buscalan. Authorities discovered 42,000 fully grown marijuana plants spread across a 2,800-square-meter plot.

All the illegal crops were uprooted and destroyed on-site through burning. No cultivators or suspects were apprehended during the operation.

PDEA has yet to release further information about the origin of the plantation or whether the landowner is under investigation.

Despite the absence of arrests, the agency considers the operation a significant success in its ongoing efforts to curb the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs in remote areas.
