A 10-year-old boy died while his 8-year-old passenger was seriously injured after their bicycle was hit by an SUV in Barili, Cebu, on Sept. 8.
The collision happened shortly after noon along the Provincial Road in Barangay Candugay, according to the initial police investigation.
The victims were identified as John, who was riding the bicycle, and Grae, his 8-year-old passenger.
Police said the SUV was traveling toward the town proper when it allegedly crossed into the opposite lane after overtaking a motorcycle.
The vehicle, owned by the Barili local government unit, was driven by Arthur, 37, who was reportedly the designated driver of the LGU.
The SUV then collided with the bicycle carrying the two children.
Both bicycle riders were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. John was declared dead, while Grae remained under treatment for serious injuries.
Authorities are considering possible charges against the SUV driver, including reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries and damage to property.
The incident remains subject to the ongoing investigation by police.
