Police arrested a 23-year-old rider and rescued his 16-year-old passenger after suspected shabu worth an estimated P1.3 million was recovered at a border control checkpoint in Tuboran, Mawab, Davao de Oro, shortly after 4 a.m. on Sept. 7.
According to the Mawab Municipal Police Station, the suspect was identified by the alias Russ. He and his 16-year-old passenger are both residents of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
Mawab Municipal Police Station chief PMaj. June Eric Deguito said personnel of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company stopped the two as they approached the border control checkpoint.
Police said the motorcycle had no side mirror and license plate, while the rider could not present a driver’s license.
The two only presented a copy of the motorcycle’s official receipt and certificate of registration. While the rider was getting the documents from his coin purse, a sachet of suspected shabu reportedly fell from it.
A body search was then conducted on the rider. Police recovered two large packages of suspected shabu allegedly concealed inside the jogger pants he was wearing.
The recovered suspected illegal drugs were estimated to be worth P1.3 million.
The rider is currently detained and will face charges for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The 16-year-old passenger was rescued following the incident.
