Ariel Winter shock: Modern Family star lures child predators on hidden camera after disguising herself as 12-year-old girl in real-life sting

Former “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter has taken a chilling new role — posing as a 12-year-old girl to trap child predators in the true crime docuseries SOSA Undercover.

The 27-year-old actress joined forces with Safe from Online Sex Abuse (SOSA), a nonprofit that targets suspected sex offenders who prey on minors through digital platforms. Winter, known for portraying Alex Dunphy for over a decade, now portrays a very different character: bait.

Modern Family star joins real sting operation

In a hidden-camera sting in Oklahoma City, Winter wore a blonde wig with bangs and posed inside a child-like bedroom. She used a high-pitched voice and even called one of the suspects “Daddy” while chatting with him on FaceTime.

Viewers will see her calmly interact with a 31-year-old man who believed he was speaking to a young girl. Sources say this suspect arranged to meet what he thought was a 12-year-old — just one of the many men caught through the operation.

Winter admitted the work is terrifying at times. However, she described the experience as validating, especially when she sees predators taken off the streets. She said she has met too many survivors whose lives were permanently changed by abuse that started online.

Ariel says she’s been the girl they target

Ironically, Winter reflected on her own early years in Hollywood and said the mission struck a personal nerve. She started acting at age four and spent much of her life on sets surrounded by older adults. Now, she realizes how vulnerable she once was.

One of the predators she helped catch was nearly 40 and suggested taking a supposed 11-year-old shopping for a new bra. Winter said these men are often not what people expect. Many look like neighbors, fathers, or husbands — but their private online behavior reveals a disturbing reality.

According to SOSA, there are hundreds of thousands of men actively seeking to connect with pre-teen girls. Winter’s goal is to help expose these threats before another child is harmed.

Undercover, unscripted, and unapologetic

Winter said teaming up with SOSA gave her a way to fight back and be the protector she wished young girls always had. She explained that it’s cathartic to put away predators who would otherwise continue to target children online.

The series does not dramatize the reality. It shows the raw, unscripted dangers that lurk behind what seems like harmless chats. SOSA Undercover doesn’t just document abuse — it stops it in real-time.

Winter says she isn’t acting anymore — this time, the danger is real and the stakes are life-changing.
