2 rallyists arrested during EDSA People Power anniversary inquested

The two individuals arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the rally commemorating the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution have undergone inquest proceedings.

Police maintain that those arrested allegedly caused trouble and assaulted officers during the protest.

In an interview with Brigada NewsFM Manila, Hazel Asilo, spokesperson of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said that since the suspects have been inquested, it is now up to the court to determine whether the proceedings will continue.

While awaiting a commitment order, the two remain detained at the Mandaluyong Police Station detention facility.

Following the incident, several groups issued statements insisting that the arrests were illegal.

In response, Asilo advised that these statements be converted into sworn affidavits so they may be used by the arrested individuals.

She said this would allow the statements to serve as evidence for the defense of the detained rallyists.
