Group insists their members did not assault police at rally, says they were the victims

The group Samahan ng mga Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) has issued a clarification regarding the incident that led to the arrest of two of their members during the rally commemorating the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary.

In an interview with Brigada NewsFM Manila, SPARK Secretary General Patricia Racca said police have accused their members, Edel Parducho and Three Odeña, of direct assault for allegedly hurting police officers.

However, Racca maintained that Parducho was serving as a marshal and was protecting the group of families of EJK victims during the gathering, while Odeña was peacefully documenting the rally.

She further claimed that police officers attempted to seize Odeña’s camera to prevent footage of the alleged violence committed by authorities during the protest.

Racca stressed that it was not their members who inflicted harm, but that they were in fact the victims.

She added that they possess evidence to support their claims and are prepared to face any charges that may be filed against them.
