2 alleged NPA members killed in South Cotabato clash

Two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA), including a regional official, were killed during a military operation in Barangay Laconon, T’boli, South Cotabato on April 9, according to the Philippine Army.

Authorities identified one of the fatalities as Anthony Narvasa, also known as alias Magaw, who was reportedly serving as secretary of the Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR). Another fatality was identified as Rosa Kian, also known as alias Mutya or Roxanne, a female member assigned to Team 1, Squad 2 of the Regional Operations Command (ROC) of the FSMR.

The 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade said the operation resulted in the neutralization of the two alleged rebels and the recovery of four M16 rifles and one R4 rifle from the encounter site.

Military officials reported that no casualties were recorded among government forces during the operation.

According to the Army, Narvasa had been installed as FSMR secretary in the last quarter of 2025 after two previous secretaries were also killed in earlier operations. The earlier fatalities included alias Bobo in December 2022 and alias Rafa or Ruby in June 2025.

Authorities described Narvasa as a notorious member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) who was facing several criminal charges, including multiple attempted homicide, murder and attempted murder cases.

Brigadier General Michael A. Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, commended the troops involved in the operation, describing the outcome as a significant accomplishment.

The remains of the two individuals are currently in the custody of operating troops and will be handled in accordance with established procedures.

Military officials reiterated that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to address insurgency and maintain peace and security in affected communities.
