Three persons of interest identified in killing of Gensan student

General Santos City police investigators have identified three persons of interest in the death of a 21-year-old Mindanao State University student found lifeless in her room in Barangay Apopong on Monday morning.

The victim, Miyuki Kim, a graduating Bachelor of Science in Fisheries student, was discovered under violent circumstances hours after she was expected to be at a family gathering Sunday night. Police also noted that money from her room appeared missing, raising suspicions of possible robbery-related motives.

Based on the initial report of Police Station 2 under PMAJ Jethro Doligas, Kim remained alone in their home when the incident occurred. Neighbors reported unusual signs, including lights turned off earlier than usual and persistent barking from the family dog, which are now part of the case assessment.

In a phone interview, City Police Director PCOL Nicomedes Olaivar Jr. confirmed that three individuals are now considered persons of interest, though their identities and possible connections to the crime are being withheld pending further validation.

Olaivar said investigators and intelligence operatives are conducting background checks, reviewing timelines, and analyzing behavioral indicators tied to the three individuals.

“We are verifying their involvement and whether any of them were present or had access to the residence,” Olaivar stated. “We do not release names at this stage to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
