Thousands of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices were destroyed in a ceremonial event organized by the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), just days before welcoming the New Year in Central Luzon.
The fireworks destroyed included boga, kwitis, Goodbye Philippines, Lolo Thunder, and other illegal pyrotechnics, with an estimated total value of over ₱500,000. The event aimed to send a strong message: public safety comes first, and illegal fireworks are not welcome.
A PRO3 spokesperson said the destruction was crucial to prevent accidents and injuries, especially among children and the elderly. “We want everyone to celebrate safely. Even a small mistake with illegal fireworks can lead to serious harm,” the spokesperson added.
The public’s response online was overwhelmingly positive. One resident commented, “Thank you, PRO3 and BFP! I feel safer celebrating with my family this New Year.” Others shared photos and cheers, praising the authorities’ efforts.
With controlled bursts and sparks lighting up the ceremonial site, the event reminded everyone that celebration doesn’t have to come with danger. The message was clear: enjoy the New Year responsibly and leave illegal fireworks behind.
