La Trinidad records 10.6°C, coldest so far this amihan season

Residents of La Trinidad woke up to a chilly morning on Monday, December 29, as the temperature dropped to 10.6°C, the coldest recorded so far this 2025–2026 Amihan season, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

The Amihan, the northeast monsoon that brings cool and dry air to northern and central Philippines, usually causes a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in highland areas such as Benguet. PAGASA said the low reading in La Trinidad is slightly higher than last season’s record of 9.4°C on January 25, 2025.

Meteorologists also note that such cold spells are normal during the Amihan season but advise the public to monitor weather updates, as temperatures may fluctuate in the coming days.

La Trinidad’s drop in temperature highlights the start of the peak cold period in the Cordillera region, attracting tourists seeking cool weather during the holiday season.
