Two high school students were killed, and three others injured when a pickup truck driven by a 15-year-old boy collided with a 10-wheeler trailer truck in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, on Monday.
The victims, identified as alyas Mohammad and alyas Mahzoni, both minors and students from Iligan City, died instantly from the crash. The pickup, carrying five students, was headed to Cagayan de Oro City to celebrate the driver’s birthday when it slammed into the truck driven by 42-year-old Ernie Apor.
Apor stated that the pickup attempted to overtake his truck twice before the collision. “I tried to steer away, but the next thing I knew, there was a loud crash at the back,” Apor recounted.
The force of the impact crushed the front end of the pickup, leading to the immediate deaths of Mohammad and Mahzoni, and injuring the others.
Investigators found no skid marks from the pickup, indicating the young driver did not apply the brakes. In contrast, skid marks were visible from the trailer truck, suggesting Apor tried to avoid the collision.
The parents of the students have expressed their intention to file multiple charges against the trailer truck driver.
