Neighbors stabbed in marital dispute: 2 dead, 4 injured

A 67-year-old man went on a stabbing spree, attacking six neighbors during a marital dispute, resulting in two deaths and four injuries in Purok Dayanghirang, Barangay San Ignacio, Manay, Davao Oriental.

Police Major Isidro Capili, Public Information Officer of the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office, identified the suspect as Pedrito Baudon Mangopot. Following an argument with his wife, Mangopot left their home armed with a knife and targeted his neighbors.

The first victim, Alonzo Narvas, 59, was stabbed after Mangopot knocked on his door. Narvas’s wife, Juarlita Donato, managed to escape. Mangopot then attacked Boy Similatan, 66, who also succumbed to his injuries, and critically injured Romeo Balderas, a senior citizen. Other victims include Maria Luz Artiaga, 53, and Jeric Cataluña Resilla, 20, who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“He went on a rampage,” a witness recounted, describing the chaotic scene. The suspect, who had a history of mental health issues and was previously admitted to a mental hospital four years ago, appeared lucid during the attack, according to Felecisimo Narvas, the brother of the deceased Alonzo Narvas.

The incident has shocked the community, as Mangopot was known to be close to his neighbors. The tragic event underscores the potential dangers of untreated mental health issues and the need for community vigilance.
