The Department of Education in Davao Region (DepEd XI) is investigating an incident in which a male teacher was allegedly assaulted by two students inside Elizalde National High School in Maco, Davao de Oro.
DepEd XI spokesperson Dodong Atillo confirmed in an interview with Brigada News Davao that the incident occurred on the school campus on Monday, July 28.
According to Atillo, authorities are still determining what triggered the altercation. The investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of the two students.
DepEd XI declined to identify the students because they are minors. The agency also withheld information regarding their grade levels and did not disclose the identity of the teacher involved.
Atillo described the incident as the first of its kind in the history of DepEd XI. He said a lawyer has already been assigned to conduct an investigation into the case.
A video of the incident has circulated widely on social media, showing the confrontation that took place inside the school grounds.
Atillo also said several students attempted to intervene during the incident. According to him, they tried to separate the students involved from the teacher to stop the altercation.
DepEd XI has not yet released additional details regarding possible disciplinary measures or the condition of the teacher. The agency said the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the facts and appropriate actions in accordance with existing policies.
Authorities have not disclosed further information while the inquiry continues. The identities of the students remain protected under applicable rules governing minors.
