Filipina tennis star Alex Eala defeated British wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the Round of 16 of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan.
Eala quickly established a 5-0 lead in the opening set after capitalizing on three consecutive errors from Stojsavljevic.
The Filipina then showcased her powerful forehand winners to close out the seventh game and secure the first set.
Eala said her aggressive playing style helped her counter Stojsavljevic’s strong serves and maintain control of the match.
Stojsavljevic, who won the 2024 US Open girls’ singles title and is currently ranked world number 411, entered the WTA 500 tournament as a wildcard.
Eala will next face Australian veteran Talia Gibson, who is ranked world number 38, in the next round.
