A newborn baby was found abandoned in Barangay Binabag, Bogo City, Cebu, on the night of Oct. 22.
The baby was rescued at around 4 a.m. after being found lying on a slightly elevated patch of ground without a diaper or any covering.
According to information gathered about the incident, people nearby reportedly hesitated to approach the baby because of the darkness.
The newborn was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital-Bogo City for a thorough health examination and remains under the care of medical staff.
An office also visited the baby and provided essential supplies, including milk, diapers, baby wipes, rubbing alcohol and other basic necessities.
Coordination with the relevant agencies is ongoing to ensure the baby’s welfare and facilitate further investigation into the incident.
The initial report did not provide details about the baby’s gender, medical condition or the identity of the person responsible for the abandonment.
Authorities have yet to release additional information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
For now, the newborn remains under medical supervision as concerned agencies coordinate assistance and work to ensure the child’s safety and well-being.
