Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson has called on the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to prioritize its investigation into flood control projects in Ilocos Norte, the home province of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a press conference, Singson argued that the ICI should not wait for the Senate or the House of Representatives to take the lead. Instead, he urged the body to begin its probe directly in Marcos’s political stronghold.
Singson alleged that the contractors for the flood control projects are members of the Discaya family, though he did not provide further documentation during his remarks. He claimed the situation highlights deep-rooted problems in government-funded infrastructure programs.
Beyond his call for an investigation, Singson made an appeal to the youth, urging them to lead what he described as a peaceful revolution against corruption. He suggested students suspend their classes until allegedly corrupt officials resign from their posts, warning that rallies would be ineffective since, in his words, the President “cannot be trusted” and he did not want young people harmed during protests.
