Senior citizen shot by minor in Sibonga, Cebu

A senior citizen was injured after being shot by a minor in Barangay Bae, Sibonga, Cebu, on Friday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on April 10, according to initial police investigation.

The victim was identified as alias “Gaudioso,” 71 years old, while the suspect was identified as a 17-year-old minor known as alias “Jerome.”

Police said the victim was standing outside his house when the suspect arrived carrying an airgun.

Before the shooting, the suspect reportedly approached his mother, who was washing clothes belonging to Gaudioso outside the victim’s residence.

After a few minutes, the suspect approached the victim and suddenly fired the airgun.

The victim was hit on the right side of his hip.

Gaudioso was able to seek assistance immediately after the incident and was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his injury.

Authorities conducted a hot pursuit operation following the shooting.

The operation resulted in the rescue of the minor suspect and the recovery of the airgun believed to have been used in the incident.

Police later turned over the minor to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for proper disposition in accordance with procedures involving juvenile suspects.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
